About this property

Welcome to Casa Tata Chacahua

Casa Tata Chacahua is a hotel located in the scenic area of Lagunas de Chacahua Bahia de, Oaxaca, Mexico. Its setting by the ocean offers a tranquil environment that appeals to guests looking for a quiet beachside retreat. The property features private cabins with a modern yet rustic beach style, providing comfort with amenities like wall fans and mosquito nets, while blending naturally with the surroundings.

The accommodations have been noted for their size and privacy, enhanced by surrounding plants. Guests can enjoy peaceful views of the ocean, and the property includes new buildings such as a yoga studio and communal outdoor kitchen, offering additional space for relaxation and gatherings. Although there is no pool on site, the proximity to the sea serves as a natural alternative for swimming, and a Starlink internet connection is available in the main palapa.

The location involves a short walk to the nearby town, either along the beach or via a street route, contributing to easy access to local restaurants and amenities. Visitors have praised the overall experience for its serene atmosphere, friendly local community, and the unique natural features nearby, including opportunities for bioluminescent tours and exploring the local mangroves.

Guest feedback highlights both the property’s strengths and areas for improvement. While the environment, cabin quality, and hospitality receive positive comments, some have noted limited housekeeping services during stays, pointing to a more self-sufficient approach during the visit. This makes Casa Tata Chacahua suitable for travelers seeking a laid-back, nature-oriented experience rather than a fully serviced hotel.

Visited two years ago and impressed to see how they’re growing and improving on this beautiful project. Last week we returned and had a gorgeous cabaña with a view of the ocean. They also have constructed two brand new buildings. One with a yoga studio and staff accommodations, and another with two guest rooms and a gorgeous outdoor kitchen and living area. We asked to rent the new space and were told by staff on site that it’s for the exclusive use of the owner. A strange reply as they advertise these rooms on Instagram. Unfortunately some staff were not super professional or attentive. It felt like they were constantly lounging around and perhaps taking advantage of the owner being away to use the new space themselves. There are also certain repairs needed, like electrical sockets and lightbulbs in the cabaña, lack of spoons at coffee station, etc. There’s a new employee there Filo who is very kind and attentive and eager to help improve the customer experience. He is the only person who checked on us during our stay, the others seemed to disappear or awkwardly lounge around without asking if we needed anything. I hope the owners support Filo and hire other proactive staff to create a better guest experience. With a more attentive and professional staff this place would be an easy 5 stars. Will definitely be back.

Just a small walk away from the town, this hut feels like it's on a beach of it's own. Quiet surroundings with the soft crash of the waves in the distance. Lovely modern architecture inside the huts, comfy beds, relaxing outdoor table and hammocks. Come and stay, walk the beach, eat fresh seafood, swim in the warm ocean and enjoy the magic of this beautiful spot.

Magical! Incredible! Out of this world. I recently staid for 3 nights with my wife and kids (3 and 1 year old). The place is brand new, the cabins are private, silent, clean and modern, yet keeping the style of a beautiful beach cabin. Jose the owner is quite available and the details he put into everything to make this a top place is amazing. We had a wonderful experience all throughout. When I was there, there was no restaurant by the cabins yet (they're now working on it), so we had to walk a few minutes on the beach to get to a nearby beach restaurant. The walk is really nice! The sunrise is unbelievable. Every morning we would wake up to a huge, energetic red sun peeking out from behind the ocean. At night you can see ALL the stars to the sound of waves as there is minimum light all around. We went on a Bioluminescence tour and it was also just too much to even handle. We are all so excited to have lived this experience in which you jump out of the boat at night and you just GLOW. Your body glows, your movement glows, the fish that swim by and even moving boat glows. Just impressive and filled with fantastic energy. Then, by the cabins, the sand would also Glow as we stepped on it. Getting to and from the cabins is also a great ride as you go on a 30 minute boat ride to get to the island crossing the mangrove. Chacahua is one of those gems that still remains true to its origins. Streets are not paved, people are happy. It all feels like a true Mexican town trapped in time with the most amazing contact with nature one could ask for. If you go, don't miss crossing over to "El Faro" (the Lighthouse). Lunch is amazing there. You're just sitting by the waves having the most amazing, fresh fish you can find. Luna was the place where we had delicious lunch. Anyway, I wrote a long review because all my family is still excited and glowing from this marvelous experience.

Very much enjoyed our stay here. I think this is the most glam you can get for Chacahua. Would definitely return just make sure to reserve as there are only 9 cabanas
